Q2 2026 Component Market Update

Date: April 13, 2026

From: The Computer Medix Team

Subject: Severe Price Surges and Scarcity for All Major PC Components

Dear Valued Customers,

At Computer Medix, transparency remains our core value. Since our last update in January, the global semiconductor landscape has shifted from a “tightening” supply to a full-scale shortage crisis. We want to provide you with the most current data to help you make informed decisions regarding your technology needs.

The Situation

The “AI Bubble” has reached a critical peak. Major manufacturers like Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix have shifted nearly all high-margin production to AI-specific High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and enterprise-grade chips. This has effectively “priced out” the consumer market, leading to record-breaking price hikes for standard home and business computers. Additionally, regional conflicts in the Middle East have introduced significant freight surcharges and energy-related logistics costs.

How This Affects Pricing

We are seeing extreme cost increases that far exceed initial 2026 projections:

System Memory (RAM)

After a nearly 95% jump in Q1 2026, DRAM prices are projected to rise another 55–65% in Q2. While we are seeing a minor 5% “correction” in some older DDR4 modules, the overall cost to build or upgrade a system with 16GB or 32GB of RAM is at a historical high.

Solid State Drives (SSDs)

The shortage of NAND flash storage chips is now more severe than the RAM shortage. Following an 85% surge in Q1, prices are expected to jump another 70–75% this spring. High-capacity drives (2TB and above) are being diverted to data centers, making them extremely scarce for consumers.

Processors (CPUs)

In March and April, both Intel and AMD announced price increases of 10–15% across their consumer desktop and laptop processor lines, citing rising wafer costs and manufacturing complexity.

Hard Drives (HDDs)

Large-scale mechanical drives are now facing availability issues. Major manufacturers like Western Digital have reported that their entire 2026 production capacity is already sold out to enterprise AI clients.

What to Expect at Computer Medix

  • Quote Validity: Due to rapid, often daily, price adjustments from our distributors, all repair and custom build quotes are now valid for a maximum of 24 to 48 hours.
  • Inventory Strains: We are doing our best to maintain a local stock of essential 500GB and 1TB SSDs, but availability of high-spec components (especially 32GB+ RAM kits) is limited, and sourcing times for specific parts can range from a few days to a few weeks depending on current stock.

Recommendation

If you require a computer repair, a memory upgrade, or a new system, the time to act is now. Market analysts do not expect significant pricing relief until late 2027. Waiting even a few weeks could result in a 20–30% higher cost for the same hardware.

We appreciate your continued trust as we navigate these challenging market conditions together.

Sincerely,
The Computer Medix Team
